LGV (HGV) Training from RIC Training

Please note that you must be over 21 to be able to drive an LGV

Medicals

You can use your own doctor for this or you can use one that we use. Our doctor will charge £40 but charges do vary from doctor to doctor so it may be worth checking with your own. You will need a D4 form that you can either get from us or from DSA. Once you have your form you can see the doctor.

Provisional entitlement onto driving licence

Once you have passed your medical you will need to complete a D2 application form for LGV provisional entitlement. The D2 is then sent off with the D4 and your licence to the DVLA which is then returned with the provisional entitlement on it.

Theory (HPT hazard perception test) test

  • Book an appointment for a test with DSA at nearest test centre
  • Prepare for the test with assistance from RIC
  • Sit test
  • Pass test

Driving Assessment

Once the theory / HPT has been passed then current driving skills will be assessed using the category of vehicle that you will be using to indicate how many days training will be needed

Training

Training will be delivered in line with the findings from the assessment (you can choose to do the training on a 1 to 1 or 2 to 1 ratio in the cab.
